Writing level

• Write at a 8^th grade level to help balance the scientific content.
  • For technical content, write at a 10-12^th grade level.
• Avoid jargon and explain technical terms, if required.
• Keep sentences short with just a single focus.
• Check readability with the Hemingway app or another online readability tool.

Plain language

• Simple, clear writing:
  • Is easy to understand.
  • Communicates the message quickly.
  • Aids in search engine optimization.
  • Is respectful to non-English speakers.
• Keep writing conversational.
• Unless otherwise noted, spell out acronyms at first mention. (See the Medical terms and acronyms section for specifics.)
