“CME” = Continuing Medical Education

  • Whenever possible, spell out the entire term on first use with the acronym bracketed: Continuing Medical Education (CME)
  • Thereafter, can be referred to as CME within the document.
  • The term CME can be listed as such on first reference in a description if there are space constraints

AMA PRA Credit Designation Statement

 

(Full Version)

The RSNA designates this {insert activity format} for a maximum of {insert number} AMA PRA Category 1 Credit(s)TM. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

 

(Short Version)

This activity has been approved for AMA PRA Category 1 CreditTM.

 

  • Type of credit RSNA awards if an activity has been approved for CME credit.
  • Materials that have the title, objectives, dates, and times of the CME activity should always show the AMA PRA Credit Designation statement.
    • If the amount of credit is known, use the full version. (See Ref. 6 & 7)
    • If the credit amount is not yet known, use the short version. (See Ref. 5)
    • Remove the paratheses in the word “Credit(s)” when more than one credit will be awarded.
    • Remove the “s” and the paratheses in the word “Credit(s)” if only one credit will be awarded.
  • Save the date and brief announcements may include the “short” version of the statement, so long as the amount of credit is not stated.
  • Italics and “TM” must be written as shown in the examples. The “TM” is always un-italicized and superscripted, and there is not a space between it and the word “Credit” in the sentence.
  • The period following the “TM” should not be italicized.
  • The phrase “Category 1 Credit” must never be used when referring to AMA PRA Category 1 Credit™.
  • Must be separated from any other statements by white space or headings, i.e., you cannot string together the AMA & ACCME statements to form one paragraph.

Which AMA PRA activity format to insert

  • RSNA awards credit for multiple CME activity formats. The CME office will determine the activity format to list and will communicate this when the activity is approved for credit.
  • The activity format inserted into the AMA statement will be one of the following, written as shown:
    • Live activity
    • Enduring material
    • Journal-based CME activity
    • Manuscript review activity
    • Other activity (blended learning)

ACCME Accreditation Statement

 

The Radiological Society of North America (RSNA) is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) to provide continuing medical education for physicians.

 

  • Must accompany any announcement of a CME activity that mentions the amount of credit.
  • Must appear exactly as worded.
  • Must be separated from the AMA statement by white space or headings, i.e., you cannot string together the AMA & ACCME statements to form one paragraph.
  • Must be separated from any other text or statements included.

RSNA designates this Other activity (blend live and enduring material) for a maximum of 465 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

8 Special versions of the AMA PRA Statement when multiple activities are listed in the same location, web page, or other marketing piece.
When a web page or marketing piece lists several different CME activities, the AMA PRA statements may be combined into one credit designation statement according to the following examples. As with other uses of the AMA PRA statement, these should appear separated from any other text or statements by blank lines or white space. In all cases, final approval from the CME Office is required to use these special versions.
 
Variation 1—Same activity formats, same amounts of credit:
 
RSNA designates each {insert activity type} listed for a maximum of {insert amount} AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™. 
Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.
 
 
Variation 2—Same activity formats, different amounts of credit:
 
RSNA designates each enduring material for the number of AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™ listed. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.
 
The listings for the activities must include the amount of credit in parentheses, for example:
  • Lung Cancer Screening (2 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™)
  • 3D Imaging Update (1 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™)
 
 
Variation 3— Different activity formats, same or different amounts of credit:
 
RSNA designates each activity for the number of AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™ listed below. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.
 
The listings for the activities must include the activity format and amount of credit in parentheses, for example:
  • Lung Cancer Screening (Live activity, 2 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™)
  • Crohn’s Disease Imaging (Enduring material, 1.5 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™)
 
Variation 4—"Save the Date” or ”Coming Soon” announcements for multiple approved CME activities where the activity formats and amounts of credit will not be mentioned, descriptions of the activities do not include objectives and other detailed information, and print space is limited:
