RSNA Research and Education (R&E) Foundation Board of Trustees has approved over $5 million in radiology research and education funding this year.

Since its inception in 1984, the RSNA R&E Foundation has awarded over $84 million in grant funding to deserving researchers and educators that help make a tangible difference in the future of medical imaging and patient care worldwide.

“True to the Foundation’s critical mission of Funding Radiology’s Future, the Board of Trustees decided to fund an unprecedented amount—$5.26 million—for grants to help ensure a bright future for all medical imaging professionals,” said Satoshi Minoshima, MD, PhD, chair of the R&E Foundation Board of Trustees. “This funding level is impossible without the dedicated support of our generous donors.”

This year marks the R&E Foundation’s 40th anniversary. From the beginning, the Foundation has remained dedicated to the future of radiology by developing investigators and supporting lifelong research. Over the past 40 years, the Foundation has awarded more than 1,900 grants. This year the RSNA R&E Foundation will fund 10 research scholars, seven research seed grants, 30 research fellows/residents, 29 research medical students and five education projects across 46 North American institutions.

“We’re incredibly grateful for the support of our donors during the past four decades,” Dr. Minoshima said. “As we celebrate this distinguished milestone, we look forward to the Foundation’s next 40 years. We’re committed to building upon this incredible legacy and continuing to make a positive impact.”

This year’s grants will provide crucial funding for research on important topics in radiology, including health disparities, imaging informatics and MRI investigation of noise-induced hearing loss.

For every dollar awarded by the Foundation, recipients have received approximately $60 additional dollars in subsequent funding from other sources.
