RSNA Hosted Webinar on Gender Penalty During COVID-19
Topics included professional and personal service burdens during the pandemic
RSNA hosted a 60-minute webinar on gender disadvantages for female radiologists during the COVID-19 pandemic, entitled, “Is There a Gender Penalty for Women Professionals During COVID-19?”
The webinar discussed the challenges female radiologists face during the COVID-19 crisis, such as the disproportionate service burden—both professionally and in the home—as well as burnout, presumably in part due to potential gender imbalances of service demands and sense of value and belonging in the professional arena.
The webinar was moderated by Carolyn C. Meltzer, MD, RSNA Board Liaison for Science and the William P. Timmie Professor and Chair of Radiology & Imaging Sciences; executive associate dean of faculty academic advancement, leadership, & inclusion, Emory University School of Medicine, Atlanta.
Also participating in the webinar were Judy Yee, MD, university chair and professor of radiology at the Montefiore Medical Center, Albert Einstein College of Medicine, New York City; Susan Ackerman, MD, professor of radiology, vice chair of clinical affairs, and division director of ultrasound at the Medical University of South Carolina Department of Radiology, Charleston; Jeffrey S. Klein, MD, RSNA Board Liaison for Publications and Communications, and Editor of RSNA RadioGraphics and the A. Bradley Soule and John P. Tampas Green and Gold Professor of Radiology, division of cardiothoracic radiology at the University of Vermont College of Medicine, Burlington; and Theresa M. Caridi, MD, assistant professor of vascular and interventional radiology, MedStar Georgetown University Hospital, Washington, DC.
CME is available for the on demand version of this webinar.
