IR/DR Certifying Exam Registration Deadline is March 31

IR/DR certifying exam replaces Vascular and Interventional Radiology (VIR) subspecialty oral exam

Registration is open for the Interventional Radiology/Diagnostic Radiology (IR/DR) certifying exam scheduled for October 14-15, 2018, at the American Board of Radiology’s (ABR) Tucson Exam Center.

Registration is available to candidates who are completing their final year of an IR/DR residency program or those diplomates who hold ABR certification in diagnostic radiology.

The IR/DR certifying exam consists of an oral component and a computer-based component.

The oral component includes four 30-minute oral exams focusing on elements of image interpretation, image-guided procedures and the peri-procedural management of patients.

The computer-based component includes two modules: Essentials of Diagnostic Radiology and Interventional Radiology. This component takes approximately 2 ½ hours to complete.

Candidates taking this exam who are already certified in diagnostic radiology are only required to take the oral component. Those who are not certified in diagnostic radiology are required to take both the oral and computer-based components.

To be eligible to take the IR/DR certifying exam, candidates must be current with ABR fees, hold an active state or provincial (Canadian) medical license, be board eligible, have an active application with the ABR, successfully complete an IR residency and have passed the core exam.

Candidates for the October exam date must submit a completed registration form by March 31. Registration is available at https://form.jotform.com/73406211003135.
