Dr. Woodard Appointed R&E Foundation Chair

The R&E Foundation welcomes the new Board of Trustees Chair Pamela K. Woodard, MD. Dr. Woodard has served two terms on the Board of Trustees and was chair-elect from 2023-2024. Dr. Woodard steps into this new leadership role (2024-2026) eager to further the mission of the Foundation to invest in the future of radiology by developing investigators and supporting lifelong innovative research and education. 

“I am thrilled to serve as the chair of the R&E Foundation Board of Trustees. As a two-time grant recipient, I know just how important its role can be in advancing the careers of radiologists and paving the way for future impact in medicine,” Dr. Woodard said. “I’m excited to bring my experience and perspective to the leadership of the Foundation these next two years.” 

Dr. Woodard serves as the Elizabeth E. Mallinckrodt Professor of Radiology and director of Mallinckrodt Institute of Radiology at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis. She is also a professor of internal medicine, pediatrics and biomedical engineering. 

An NIH-funded clinician scientist as a PI or MPI for over two decades, Dr. Woodard has served as a standing member on NIH study sections, most recently as a study section chair. Currently, she is also program director on an NIH NIBIB T32 Clinician-Scientist Training grant to educate radiology residents and fellows in translational imaging research.  

Dr. Woodard has received numerous honors and awards throughout her career including the RSNA Outstanding Researcher Award in 2021. She has received a Distinguished Investigator Award from the Academy for Radiology and Biomedical Imaging Research, is a fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, and a fellow of the American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering, an honorary engineering society. She is a prolific author, researcher and highly respected educator.  

An active participant and revered leader in organized radiology, Dr. Woodard serves on the board of directors of the Society for Cardiovascular Computed Tomography. She is president of the Academy of Radiology and Biomedical Imaging Research, an advocacy group that lobbies for NIH funding and medical imaging research. 

Dr. Woodard is past president of the North American Society for Cardiovascular Imaging and currently serves as president of the American College of Radiology.

Other new appointments to the R&E Foundation Board of Trustees include treasurer Michael S. Gee, MD, PhD, and secretary Lori L. Barr, MD. Phan T. Huynh, MD, and Matthew A. Mauro, MD, were reappointed for a second term. New trustees are Pina C. Sanelli, MD, MPH, and Mahmud Mossa-Basha, MD.
